Will Ferrellis taking it to the streets in his next film, and he’ll be delivering (comedic) justice while he’s at it. The formerSaturday Night Livefunnyman and current star of thepoignant documentaryWill & Harperis reportedly in talks to star in the next film by comedy directorPeter Atencio, aDirty Harry-style feature calledStreet Justice.
In new reporting fromDeadline, Ferrell will produce and star in the new film for 20th Century Studios, being touted as “a Dirty Harry type who goes about taking justice into his own hands,” based on a script and original idea by screenwriter David Callaham. This will be the second collaboration between Callaham and Atencio,who previously worked onJean-Claude Van Johnsontogether, an action comedy television series starring Jean-Claude Van Damme as a heightened version of himself that they worked on together for Prime Video.
This will be another comedy project for Ferrell, who seemed to dip out of the genre for a couple of years following a string of badly received titlessuch as 2018’sHolmes & Watson, a movie by Etan Cohen in which Ferrell joined forces withStep-Brothersco-star John C. Reilly for a light-hearted take on the Arthur Conan Doyle’s famous detective. Despite the all-star cast, the movie bombed at the box office, and received just a 10% score on Rotten Tomatoes. After a few years out of the spotlight, Ferrell staged a comeback with roles in a run of popular and successful movies such asSpirited, Strays,and, of course,Barbie.

Though specific plot details are being kept under wraps, we do know that Ferrell and Jessica Elbaum will serve as producers on behalf of Gloria Sanchez Productions, alongside David Koplan. Callaham will also serve as an executive producer.
