Everyone has an excuse, and inTainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon, there’s one individual in particular that refuses to leave his spot. It’s not out of malice or general interest in something, but fear of death. Poor Berach believes he has a curse and going near anyone else in the world would only spread it, so he has holed up beneath a bridge until someone is able to break it. It’s now up to you to find a way to put his mind at ease.

Some individuals are masters of their class, for Rumpolt, he is the best of the best.

Accepting the Quest

Age of Excuse can be an easily missed story mission found in the middle of the Horn of the South. Our unfortunate quest giver is found directly northeast of the Archspire teleportation stone, or directly south of the one in the small desolate village (although it’s below the bridge instead of on the bridge itself).

You will come across Berach in a rather distraught state, as he believes he has been cursed. He will go over the various reasons why he believes he has been cursed and that now you have caught the curse as it’s contagious. He believes he’s unable to move from his spot until someone is able to lift the curse from him.

How to Help Berach

Age of Excuse is one of the many quests in Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon that doesn’t hand your hand or even point you in the right direction. All that’s described is “Maybe there’s someone who will know how to cure him?” You will have to know someone who has a detailed knowledge of curses, and if you’ve done the Black Tar Prophecies, you’ll know exactly who you’ll want to go to.

We’re talking about Drest, a somewhat cowardice individual living just beyond the walls of the Keep. You will be able to find him directly south of the Keep, along the beach and shoreline. He will likely be huddled next to a campfire begging for food. The Black Tar Prophecies and Age of Excuse are couple of quests you’re able to interact with Drest, but be warned that if you do the former first and choose a very specific option, one that removes Drest from the world, then you’ll have no way of finishing this.

Regardless, after finding Drest, he will go on about how he believes the curse is bogus and the best thing you may do is concoct a fake potion for him and have him drink it. He will hopefully believe that the curse is lifted and get on with his life.

Finding the Ingredients for Disgusting Health Potion

The potion requires a couple of ingredients for you to find:

The Spirit and Sage ingredients are things you’ve likely come across quite a bit on your travels, but if you’re having trouble with these two, you canpurchase them from Jann Heberin the Keep for 20g and 12g, respectively.

The Grindylow Tooth is likely the material you’re looking for the most as it’s dropped from a very specific enemy: Grindylow. These are the goblin-looking creatures that wield a small club. They can be found in a very specific location. This location is right around the Archspire. There are a couple leading up the road north of the Keep and another two along the path near the Archspire itself.

You will need to kill these creatures and pray a tooth drops as it is a fairly middling chance of doing so. But once you’ve acquired it, go to an alchemist station and craft the Disgusting Health Potion. After this, all you need to do is return to Berach and give him the potion to great success.
