In this FextraLife video, we’re going to be taking a look atThe Seven Deadly Sins: Origin, which is a new free-to-play open world action RPG being developed by Netmarble, and they just released a brand new trailer at Opening night Live of Gamescom, announcing that the closed-beta registration is now available. So, we’re going to dive into that a little bit in this video.
What Is The Seven Deadly Sins Origin?
If you’ve never heard ofThe Seven Deadly Sins: Originbefore, you’re not alone. It’s a game based on the popular Japanese manga and anime,The Seven Deadly Sins, which reached 55 million sales globally, and the anime ran from 2014 and 2021 with exactly 100 episodes. The game will feature its own original story but will keep the same voice actors and actresses from the popular anime series.
The Seven Deadly Sins: Origintakes place betweenThe Seven Deadly Sinsanime and theFour Knights of Apocalypseanime, which is a current series expecting its third season later this year in the same universe.

The game will include hidden secrets and dungeons, some obvious and others discovered through exploration. As an open world action RPG, it features adventuring, exploration, and gathering mechanics, letting you craft, cook, collect wood and ore, and even fish for underwater creatures.
The launch world size is roughly 30 square kilometers, about one-quarter the size of The Witcher 3’s map, with more being added over time.
There are no restrictions on travel, allowing exploration of caves, secrets, monsters, and bosses. Each character has unique adventure skills, such as moving objects or jumping great heights, and you may need to switch heroes to progress. Mounts will let you move faster, sail across water, or fly. You can also explore underwater and play mini-games, though the number and type are yet to be detailed.
Certain creatures behave differently depending on the time of day, with a day-night cycle affecting encounters.
You will follow the story of Tristan, son of Meliodas and Elizabeth, the main characters from the previous The Seven Deadly Sins. You’ll explore the Britannia continent where time and space are warped by the Book of Stars, a priceless pendant that records and connects untold timelines and contains limitless power.
Combat System and Team Mechanics
Players will form a team of up to four heroes and can switch characters depending on the situation, meaning you will collect and acquire many different characters as you play. Each character has a different combat style and can use three different weapon types. which change the skills available to them. Tristan, for example, can use dual swords, a greatsword, or a longsword.
Equipping dual swords allows for rapid, high-speed attacks, while a greatsword delivers slower but more powerful strikes. Dual swords also enable a meteor-drop attack, whereas the greatsword allows for a straight-line push attack. These weapon types change the gameplay significantly.
The game also features a combined attack mechanic, a common in anime-inspired games, where characters combine certain attacks to create spectacular, over-the-top visuals with new deadly effects. For example, if Howzer uses a tornado and Guila fires flames, the result becomes a fiery tornado. There are many other combinations like this.
Exploration and World Features
You’ll be able to take your party into powerful boss battles and unique dungeons tailored for each of the game’s regions. Currently, there are four known regions: the Kingdom of Liones, the Fairy King’s Forest, Dragon’s Grave, and the Desert Ruins.
Each biome has its own unique atmosphere, from the bustling streets of Liones to the sparse, sandy Desert Ruins. Dungeons will reflect their regions, and more regions are expected both at launch and in future updates.
You can play solo or co-op with friends or community members. In online play, your entire team accompanies you, and their full teams accompany them, rather than replacing party members. PvP is being tested, but it’s not the primary focus and may appear post-launch or as seasonal events.
The Seven Deadly Sins Originruns on Unreal Engine 5, offering stellar visuals while maintaining good performance thanks to its art style. Still,Unreal Engine 5can sometimes cause stuttering, so we’ll see how it performs at launch.
Release Plans and Final Thoughts
The game is set to release later this year on PC viaSteamand will be a timed console exclusive forPlayStation 5. It will also launch oniOS and Android, with all platforms releasing simultaneously and supporting crossplay.
Closed beta sign-ups are now available on the official website, though details such as duration, regions, and participant selection have not yet been revealed.
