While the Comic-Con lineup is certainly different year in and year out, there are are a number of TV shows that fans know will be there, long before the schedule is announced. Heading into its 12th Season on The CW,Supernaturalis most definitely one of the convention’s most beloved, as they pack fans into Hall H every year for their panel. The show held its annual panel yesterday, where executive producersRobert SingerandAndrew Dabbreveal that recording artist Rick Springfield has come aboard to play Lucifer to battle theWinchester Brothersin Season 12.
The show’s producers said at the SDCC panel, courtesy ofThe Hollywood Reporter, that Lucifer is “going to try out a few different vessels” inSeason 12. In Season 11, Lucifer had taken possession of Castiel’s body, but in this season, this will be a bit different. Here’s whatRobert Singerhad to say about Season 12 ofSupernatural.
“Lucifer is going to try out different vessels and the first one he feels comfortable in is a rock star named Vince Vicente. We have cast that role.”
Vince Vicente is described as a “washed-up aging rock star” who will appear in the first few episodes of Season 12.Rick Springfieldshot his first scenes for the season on Friday, just two days before the Comic-Con panel. Here’s what executive producerAndrew Dabbhad to say about what will unfold with Lucifer in Season 12 ofSupernatural.
“Lucifer got what he wanted last season, his face-to-face with God [Rob Benedict]. Now he’s out in the world. We see Lucifer on vacation and he wants to have fun. This is a real role. Great actors have played this before like Mark Pellegrino andMisha Collinsa little bit, so we needed someone who could act. Most rock stars can only sing and very few can act. If you’ve seen Ricki and The Flash or True Detective recently, [Springfield’s] really great.”
We’ll have to wait and see howSam and Deaninteract with this new Lucifer, but fans who attended the Comic-Con panel got a glimpse at the new season. The Season 12 premiere will be a continuation of theSupernaturalSeason 11 finale cliffhanger, when Dean (Jensen Ackles) found his mother Mary (Samantha Smith) alive in the woods, wearing the same nightgown she had on the night she supposedly died. In the new footage shown to fans, Mom Winchester is seen wrestling Dean to the ground after he asks if she is real. It also features Sam (Jared Padalecki) being held hostage and tortured, perhaps by the British Men of Letters, while Castiel is engaged in a bloody fight. The footage also showed Dean being heled up at gunpoint, while the footage ended with a voiceover of Mary saying “I never watned this for you and Sam.” Stay tuned for more on Season 12 ofSupernatural, which debuts Thursday, October 13 at 9 PM ET on The CW.
