RememberStrange Horticulture? The puzzle game from Iceberg Interactive and developers Bad Viking from a couple of years ago that tasked you with correctly identifying various fantasy plants in order to help out with a supernatural mystery? If not, then you should immediately go check out, as it was an incredibly fun and creative game that surprised many. And now, Bad Viking is back with another surprise: An unexpected sequel. Yes, once again, players will be returning to the world of Undermere, but this time stepping away from the world of botany and into a different subject this time around, as seen with the reveal of Strange Antiguities.

A More Bizarre Antiques Roadshow

…Granted, as seen in the initial trailer above, it’s not exactly the deepest reveal for Strange Antiquities. More of a tease, if anything. Still, we get yet another look at our shop counter in Undermere, and perhaps more importantly, we also get our first look at our new cat that we can regularly pet again. The core gameplay doesn’t exactly sound like it will be that different from the original, with players once again tasked with correctly identifying several arcane artefacts (or artifacts, depending on your part of the world) while while serving as the apprentice to the Thaumaturge (no relation tothe RPG from earlier this year). And once again, there’s a greater mystery at play here, one that’s a bit more ominous, as hundreds of ravens are apparently circling the town, and things start to become more intriguing as occult scholar Verona Green from the previous game returns, coming into the shop and hoping to find some answers. Of course, with a deeper mystery comes more danger as well…

Review: Strange Horticulture

Strange Horticulture is a true hidden gem and a pleasant surprise to start the year on, a delightfully quirky and charming puzzle game.

Of course, with details just coming in and things still this early, it has yet to be seen if Strange Antiquities will indeed put some new spins on what its predecessor brought to the table. The previous game has apparently sold over 750,000 copies so far and has even scored some award nominations, so there are some big shoes to fill. Still, Strange Horticulture showed off a ton of creativity when it came to its various plants and how they all fit in with the game’s world and how they can affect customers, so we can;t wait to see what the sequel can do with the world of antiques. No release window has been announced yet, but stay tuned for more details on Strange Antiquities as they come in.
