Spider Man 2 brings an amazing combat system that feels immersive and rewarding. Knowing how to maneuver around your enemies becomes key to fully enjoying this system and dispatching thugs in record time. Here we go over some main priorities to master combat in Spider Man 2.
Mastering Your Skills
Although button mashing your way through enemies can feel great early on, players will quickly realize how ineffective it is. Once the storyline progresses and the difficulty ramps up (ex: dual wielding and shield carrying hunters), a more diverse combat strategy will be needed instead of furiously hoping to bash your way through their parries. You’re playing the game as a techy superhero so why not use some superpowers and gadgets, right?
Ultimately, the most effective strategy is one that fits your playstyle. Some players may choose to be a “silent assassin” whilepicking off enemies using web takedowns. Others ratherweb strike their way into chaosand hope their parry/dodge reactions are fast enough to not get mobbed. By combining the tips listed below, you’ll soon be web-slinging and Venom Smashing your way through enemies.

Focus, focus, focus
Healing and finishers rely on having available focus bars.Build that focus as quickly as possibleearly in the fight, and invest points in focus-generating skills (ex: “Fired up”). By spending a skill point to increase the number of focus bars, you can more effectively manage those heals and finishers. In more difficult fights, it may be best to save the first focus bar for panic heals. There’s no worse feeling than repeatedly pressing the heal button while getting banged up, only to watch your health bar drop to 0 since you didn’t have focus available.Once a focus bar is banked for healing, then you can freely throw finishers around.
When possible, save finishers forharder to kill brutes rather than squishier targetsthat can be dispatched easily with basic attacks. It will be much harder to build a focus bar with leftover parrying enemies compared to cleaning up easier targets to finish the fight.

Prioritize enemies
Targeting ranged solo enemies and turrets first will allow players to fight melee targets without wasting time dodging bullets. It’s difficult to strike enemies when you’re having to dodge every time a bullet flies towards you.Watch for sneaky crossbow wielding huntersposted on walls and use web strike to zip between them. In addition, choose carefully where to throw objects during a fight, such as tankier enemies, rather than tossing them away at an isolated squishy target.
Diversify your attacks and don’t forget gadgets!
Strategizing your loadout with anAOE, gap closer, and a high single target damage skillcan be an effective way to ensure you’re ready for every fight. Lots of ranged attackers posted around? No problem with a gap closer. Sandmen mobbing you at close quarters? AOE the group to clear them out. Finally, the high single target damage can be used to melt stronger enemies.
It’s easy to forget to use gadgets, particularly when panicking in the middle of a mob.Throwing down a dropshot or a concussioncan buy you time to build focusand easily dispatch targets. Grabbing the “Gadget Resupply” skill can further increase your crowd control and help clear groups faster.

Dodge, duck, dip, dive, and dodge
Try to wait until your spidey senses are red before dodging or parrying. For dual-wielding hunters, aperfect parry will lead to higher damageoutput instead of scrambling to counter-attack. Similarly, if there are rocket launcher enemies, wait for them to take the shot so you canweb the missile towards other targets. Beginner players may have to practice patience to truly benefit from perfect dodges/parries. Allocating points to skills such as “Confidence Boost” can further allow you to benefit from perfect dodges.
Avoid being swarmed
Players often find themselves in the most trouble during the second wave of larger fights after using initial focus bars in addition to having skills on cooldown. If you find yourself in the middle of a huge crowd, it becomes difficult to parry/dodge huge numbers of attacks. Use an AOE skill, gadget, or as a last resort it may be best to web out of there to target more isolated enemies.
Another strategy involveskeeping your enemies airborne as much as possible. Surrounding melee enemies will have a harder time attacking if you’re fighting a single target in the air.Use skills such as “Bounce Up” to isolate enemies in the air, and “Air Marshal” to increase damage while airborne. This can even work well against mini-bosses such as the axe-wielding Bear hunter to prevent him from attacking you.

With all of these combat tips in mind, you will be able to maximize your potential in Spider Man 2. Leverage your unlocked skills and play to your own playstyle. Though sometimes easily forgotten, don’t forget those gadgets!
