When you think about it, there aren’t that many games where the gameplay is centered around the newspaper business, or even reporting on the news. Sure, there are games where you play as a reporter, and games likeNot For Broadcastwhere you edit the TV news broadcast, but not a lot where being a journalist ties into any gameplay mechanics. Well, enter developer Copychaser Games with Times & Galaxy, a gaming adventure all about space journalism. Rather appropriate, as CopyChaser head Ben Gelinas actually was a newspaper reporter before heading into the world of gaming. And at today’s IGN x ID@Xbox Digital Showcase, we finally got a release window for the game, as revealed in a brand new trailerthat you’re able to check out at the link here.
What a Scoop!
Times & Galaxy sees you working for the titular publication as a new robo intern, who then finds themselves reporting on some of the galaxy’s most notable events, as well as the occasional cat show, as seen in the trailer (and accompanied by a ridiculously catchy theme). The game has you heading out to the scene of each story, asking questions, and then forming a story, where the tone of it and the reputation that it gives the paper are determined by what information you have and what you choose to use for each part of the story. In between, you’ll hang out at the office, get to know everyone, solve a few problems, and even flirt a little. There’s a ton of potential here, and between the Closed Beta held earlier this year and the demo currently available on Steam, multiple folks here at HG are highly anticipating this game.

Ben Gelinas will be a part of the “Balancing Storytelling in Games With Player Choice” panel with the developers of several other classic games as well.
