Smartphone season 2023 is well and truly upon us, and that means plenty ofAndroid phone makerslaunching their next-gen flagships. Among them, tussling for a position at the front of the queue, Oppo is has announced its latest Find X-series phone. The key difference for the Find X6 Pro is that - currently - it’s only launched in China. Here’s everything you need to know about the phone.

Launch date and price?

Oppo’s latest phone landed at pretty much the time we expected it would, but didn’t launch internationally. It launched in China in March, and it appears the company has no plans to launch it outside its home nation. This is a similar timeframe to theFind X5 Prolaunched around February/March in 2022.

Just like those two phones before it, the Find X6 Pro sits at the top end of its smartphone range and is priced as such. In China, it costs around 6500 Yuan, which at the time of writing converts to $942 USD or £760 GBP. The previous models were around £1000/€1000/$1000 when they launched, but prices are typically more expensive in Western countries, and so that’s not exactly a fair comparison. Were it to launch in Europe/UK, we’d expect it to be around the same price point as its predecessor.

Design and Display

The Find X6 Pro looks radically different from its predecessors. Where the Find X3 Pro and Find X5 Pro went for quite a subtle and seamless camera housing design on the back, the Find X6 Pro is very much the opposite.

The device has a massive circular camera unit, sticking out quite far from the back of the phone. Clearly, likethe Xiaomi 13 Ultra, it’s designed to look like a classic, dedicated digital camera.

It also features an attractive two-tone design if you opt for the brown option which features a brown ‘eco leather’ which reaches roughly 2/3rds of the way up the back of the phone, contrasting with a white glass upper. The other two colours are just glass on the back, featuring either a classic black finish or a dark green option.

From the front, it’s very much your classic flagship Android phone where the screen dominates the space, curves a little at the edges and has skinny black bezels all the way around with a punch-hole camera at the top. On the durability side, it’sIP68 water and dust resistant, ensuring it shouldn’t be troubled by rain or being accidentally dropped in water.

Oppo has cranked the display specs up a notch from the previous model, delivering a new generation LTPO panel and more brightness. It’s a large 6.82-inch AMOLED LTPO 3 panel, which means you get efficient adaptiverefresh rates from 1-120Hz. It’s designed to respond quickly and efficiently to changes in the displayed content’s frame rates, saving power. At QHD+ (1440 x 3168) resolution, it’s pin-sharp too.

It’s up there with the best of them in terms of brightness, colours and contrast. It features a peak brightness of up to 2500 nits, for those times when you have really bright spots in HDR video. It’sDolby Vision and HDR10+ compatibletoo, plus has the ability to display over a billion colours.

Hardware, software and battery specs

Oppo’s 2023 flagship was one of the firstSnapdragon 8 Gen 2-poweredphones to market. We knew it would be; Oppo announced as much during the Snapdragon event at the end of 2022.

There are - perhaps confusingly - three variants of RAM/storage available for the Find X6 Pro. There’s a 12GB/256GB entry-level model, a 16GB/256GB model and a 16GB/512GB variant.

Like the OnePlus 11, it has a big 5000mAh battery with support for Oppo’s 100W SuperVOOC wired charging which means a full charge in under 25 minutes. Unlike the OnePlus 11, however, this phone features wireless charging. And it’s fast wireless charging too, with up to 50W speeds available using a proprietary 50W charging stand.

As for software, that’s ColorOS 13.1 basedon Android 13. More important is that Oppo has promised to support these phoneswith four major updates, which means the Find X6 should be supported up to and including the Android 17 update, which we don’t expect to arrive until late 2027.

One big piece of news is the camera got a proper upgrade this year. All three of the cameras on the back of the Find X6 Pro feature a 50-megapixel sensor of some description.

The primary sensor is a huge 1-inch-type sensor similar to what we saw launch in the Xiaomi 12S Ultra. This certainly helps explain the new prominent design of the camera housing on the back.

There’s also a 50-megapixel ultrawide camera and a 50-megapixel telephoto periscope zoom camera which offers 2.8x optical zoom, and can zoom digitally all the way up to 120x.

It can shoot up to 10-bit video, with 4K at 60fps and Dolby Vision support. The front camera is a 32MP module.
