While fans still have a few weeks before they can pick up theSuicide Squad Extended Editionon Blu-ray and DVD, it is currently available on the Digital HD format. We have already seen bloopers and deleted scenes from this extended edition, but today we have a few new Easter Eggs that one fan discovered after watching this new cut. All of these Easter Eggs offer subtle nods toBatmanlore, which are seen in a shot of the Gotham City skyline.
AReddituser posted a new photo from a scene of the Gotham City skyline, which features the logos for Ace Chemicals, along with logos for the Gotham Chronicle and the Gotham Telegraph. This scene in question takes place just before the action cuts to a scene withDeadshot(Will Smith) and his young daughter. As fans of the DC Comics know, Ace Chemicals plays an important part in the Joker’s origin story.
In the iconic 1988 graphic novelBatman: The Killing Joke, the Ace Chemicals plant is where the Red Hood fought The Batman and fell into a vat of chemicals, surviving to emerge asThe Joker. The Joker actually takes Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) to the Ace Chemicals facility during a flashback sequence in Suicide Squad, where he tells her the place changed who he was after a fight with Batman. He then proceeds to drop Harleen Quinzel into a vat of chemicals, to start her transformation as Harley Quinn, before The Joker dives in after her.
Interestingly enough,Batman: The Killing Jokewas also adapted into an animated feature this summer, arriving on Blu-ray and DVD just days afterSuicide Squadhit theaters.Mark Hamill, who voiced The Joker in that animated movie and several others before it, recently stated how much he lovedJared Leto’s performance as The Joker, adding that a role like this will be “constantly redefined” throughout the years.Mark Hamillalso added that he had yet to see a Joker performance that was “terrible”.
The Blu-ray special features kick-off with a preview entitled Task Force X: One Team, One Mission, where fans can discover the rich legacy of DC’s most infamous bad guys. There is also Squad Strength and Skills, which offers the “inside story” of how the cast got into shape for this movie, Joker and Harley: The ‘It’ Couple of the Underworld, which showcases The Joker and Harley Quinn’s relationship, Chasing the Real, where writer/directorDavid Ayerreveals techniques for creating an authentic surreal world, along with a Gag Reel.
