In a recentInverseinterview, executive producer Wendy Jacobson was asked whether they faced any pushback from Marvel Studios over jokes that were taking a jab at the studio.
She reflected that the creators completely embraced the character’s aspects, ensuring that it would feel authentic to the source material.
The truth is, we all went into this movie holding hands, eyes wide open, knowing we were making a Deadpool film. We really wanted to be authentic to that. The truth is nothing is off limits to Deadpool, including himself.
She continued that the character’s humor isn’t restricted to a specific group, indicating that making fun of everything and everyone brings a sense of fairness to his jokes.
And when it comes to making fun of something… he never punches down; there’s a real egalitarianism in that. It’s kind of an equal opportunity situation.
She further addressed that Marvel Studios President, Kevin Feige also positively took his humor, adding,
Kevin Feige once said, we were talking about one line in particular, and he said, ‘The way I see it is it’s a real badge of honor to be made fun of by Deadpool.’

I think a lot of people talk about the R-rating and, ‘Is every [Marvel] movie going to be R-rated after this?’ [And the answer is] of course not. But I hope every movie after this embraces its tonality the way the way ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ and the way this team does.
In another interview withBlackTree TV,he expressed his insights into the company’s approach for the Blade movie, hinting that it will also be an R-rated project.
I mean, for the last two years as we’ve been trying to crack that movie, the most important thing for us is not rushing it and making sure we are making the right Blade movie. Because there were some great Blade movies years ago — they were all rated-R. So I think that’s, like Deadpool, inherent with the character of Blade.
