Just a few weeks afterBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justicehits theaters on March 25, production will begin onJustice League, which is set for release on Jul 19, 2025. Director Zack Snyder will return to the helm, working from a script byBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justicewriter Chris Terrio, with shooting scheduled to begin on April 11. Very little has been revealed about the story yet, but while doing press forBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,Zack SnydertoldColliderthat the movie will be set in both Gotham and Metropolis, while teasing his shooting schedule isn’t quite as long as it was onBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
“The schedule’s close, it’s not quite as long, but give or take. We have a more efficient machine in England because we have a big backlot that we built forGothamandMetropolis, so it’ll be easier to photograph than when you have to close down streets. But it’s a beautiful backlot.”
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justicesets up that bothBatman’s Gotham andSuperman’s Metropolis are actually “twin cities,” separated by a bay, much like San Francisco and Oakland. During the climactic Metropolis battle inMan of Steel, the destruction spilled over into Gotham, where Bruce Wayne’s skyscraper was destroyed, setting up the conflict between these two heroes. We know they’ll eventually put their differences aside and form theJustice Leagueat the end of this movie, leading into Justice League Part 1. As of now, though, the director reveals that he hasn’t worked out an official title for the movie quite yet.
“Right now the working title isJustice League. Actually, I’m in that phase where I’ve been drawing logos and I’ve been drawing title treatments and stuff like that to try and figure out what it means, whatJustice Leagueis, visually, so we’ll see if the name evolves with this visual presentation.”
There had previously been rumors that both Justice League Part 1 andJustice League Part 2, which is set for release on August 11, 2025, would be shot back-to-back, but that isn’t happening. What do you think aboutJustice League Part 1taking place in both Gotham and Metropolis? Of course, there could be other settings for the movie, but we’ll have to wait and see if more information is released when shooting begins next month.
