Although Eiichiro Oda’sOne Piecehas moved way ahead into the storyline, fans of the series have still not forgotten about the death of one of their favorite characters, Portgas D. Ace. While Ace had a small screen time in the series, he still managed to make an impact on the story, and his death helped Luffy to grow and develop into the person he is today inOne Piece.

The aspect of Ace’s death that fans can’t get over is the fact that he could have easily escaped as he was freed by Luffy, but he deliberately chose to stay and fight one of the strongestOne Piececharacters, Akainu, and that’s what got him killed. Akainu instigated him to the point where he chose to fight him rather than run away.

There are many who believe Ace’s decision to be a stupid one, as it ruined the effort of each and everyOne Piececharacter who risked their life to save him. However, what fans fail to realize is that there was a valid reason behind Ace’s “stupidity,” and any other character would have done the exact same thing.

Ace’s “stupidity” that got him killed

The entire Summit War Saga is quite difficult forOne Piecefans because it only portrays tragedy after almost every arc of the story. From the Straw Hat Pirates getting separated in Sabaody toLuffy almost dying in Impel Down, the entire narrative is filled with nothing but sad and depressing moments that are quite emotional and dramatic.

However, the most heartbreaking moment in the entire saga is definitely the death of Luffy’s elder brother, Ace. Ace was defeated by Blackbeard, and he was then delivered to the Marines, who decided to publicly execute him to make an example. But his crew, the Whitebeard Pirates, their allies, and Luffy were hellbent on stopping his execution.

They went against the entire army of Marine soldiers, the three Admirals, Vice Admirals, Fleet Admiral, and the legendary Warlords of theOne Pieceworld.

And even though they were up against so many enemies, they were able to liberate Ace, only for him to return and destroy everything. He got into a verbal argument with Akainu, who was insulting Whitebeard, and stupidly enough was killed by the Navy Admiral.

Ace’s stupidity had a valid reason behind it

Ace going back to save his “father” Whitebeard’s pride was believed to be one of the most stupid moments in the entireOne Pieceseries by many fans. He wasted the efforts of every character who came to save him and the ones who lost their lives trying to fight the Navy. However, there is a valid reason why Ace chose to act the way he did.

When Ace was caught and taken to the center stage for execution, he was exhausted from fighting and questioned his existence. He was driven to the pointwhere he accepted deathand realized that he was a burden to his crewmates. However, this feeling changed when he saw everyone fighting for him, especially Whitebeard and Luffy.

This is why when Akainu taunted Ace about Whitebeard and his legacy, Ace couldn’t control himself and got into a battle for a person who loved him. Ideally, any other individual would have done the same thing in his place. Thus, while his actions might feel stupid, they had a valid reason behind them thatOne Piecefans need to understand.
