Last week, Sony Pictures debuted the first poster forInferno, the third adaptation ofDan Brown’s blockbuster novel series starringTom Hanksas Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon. Many assumed that the first trailer wouldn’t be too far behind, and they were right, with the studio debuting a brief trailer preview, which reveals the first full trailer will be released tomorrow, May 9. This preview gives us a new look atTom Hanks' Robert Langdon, who is presented with a terrifying scenario.
The trailer preview, courtesy of the movie’sTwitter, reveals thatRobert Langdonis faced with his biggest mystery yet, following 2006’sThe Da Vinci Codeand 2009’sAngels & Demons, which have both earned over $1.2 billion worldwide to date. The trailer preview reveals a mysterious voice stating that there is a switch that, when flipped, will kill half the world’s population right now. However, if this switch isn’t flipped, in 100 years, the entire human race would be extinct. Fans are encouraged to reveal what they would do on the movie’s Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
TheInfernostory centers on Langdon, as he wakes up in an Italian hospital with amnesia, with no recollection of who he is, or how he got there.Felicity Jonesstars as Dr. Sienna Brooks, who helps Langdon regain his memories as they both try to stop a nefarious madman from unleashing a global plague, which is tied intoDante Alighieri’s classic novelInferno. Thesupporting castis rounded out byIrrfan Khanas Harry Sims, a.k.a. The Provost,Omar Syas Christoph Bruder andSidse Babett Knudsenas Dr. Elizabeth Sinskey, the head of the World Health Organization.Ben Fosteris playing the villain Bertrand Zobrist, a scientist trying to unleash a global plague that will solve the world’s problem with overpopulation. Sony Pictures has set an October 28 release date forInferno, putting it up against Paramount’sRingsand an untitled horror film from Lionsgate.

BothThe Da Vinci Code($758.2 million worldwide) andAngels & Demons($485.9 million worldwide) were substantial hits at the box office, but we’ll have to wait and see ifTom HanksandRon Howardcan make it three blockbusters in a row withInferno.
