Everyone knows Millie Bobby Brown, right? The girl who rocked the screens as Eleven in the Netflix science fiction drama seriesStranger Things(2016) — which earned her a shot at an Emmy nomination for ‘Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series’ at just the age of 13. And when the actress was 15, she was featured as one of Time Magazine’s 100 most influential people.

Undoubtedly, Brown has earned enough popularity at such a young age. Besides her big fame (which is definitely not all rainbows and unicorns), the internet knows that the actress has faced scrutiny for multiple reasons. And the biggest one continues to be her ‘homophobic meme.’

What Made Millie Bobby Brown Delete Her Official Twitter Account?
Millie Bobby Brown‘s homophobic’ meme? It’s been around since 2017 when a series of made-up tweets were sparked all over the internet. The meme evolved quickly, and people started making up their own stories where Brown allegedly displayed homophobic behavior.
Things got so out of hand that on July 30, 2025, the young Hollywood actress deactivated her official Twitter account after becoming a victim of the crazy online prank in which people “posted memes depicting her as a violent homophobe,” according toVariety.

It involved tons of Twitter users taking Brown’s images and putting them with anti-gay slurs and #TakeDownMillieBobbyBrown hashtag.
But some of the fans have also leaped to Millie’s defense. One user said,“Some of you have gotten way too comfortable bullying millie bobby brown for her entire childhood and saying it’s “just a joke” like it’s actually bizarre…”.

Another user said:“I 100% think the internet is obsessed with bullying her because of how much of a star/gem she is starhonestly, I’ve seen it all for years we all have and it’s obvious that people are jealous of her. Some people get hate, but with her, no she’s targetted.”

The actress has not since rejoined the social media platform. But the question is, why would someone think it’s funny to turn Brown into a bigot?

Millie Bobby Brown’s Frustration on the Big Platforms
Millie Bobby Brown has always made her feelings crystal clear — even on a huge scale!
On August 05, 2025, Millie Bobby Brown skipped the 2018 MTV Movie & TV Awards due to a knee injury, but she still left her mark. She received the award for “best performance in a show,” and in her pre-recorded acceptance speech, she called out those Twitter trolls who spread that nasty homophobic meme. In a video acceptance speech shared at theMTV Movie & TV Awards, the star said:
“There should be no space in this world for bullying, and I’m not going to tolerate it, and neither should any of you.”
As the actress mentioned herself in various interviews, the meme really messed with her. Despite her good intentions, those false rumors led to some hurtful online bullying.
On her 16th birthday, she expressed her heart onInstagram, talking about all the lies, rude comments, and insults she had to endure. But in reality, Millie Bobby Brown has never shown any signs of being homophobic on her social media.
