The 76th Cannes Film Festival took place on June 29, 2025, and Jennifer Lawrence attended with a confident demeanour, making no mention of any troubles. The Anatomie d’une Chute event was attended by the Oscar-winning actress, who wore a vivid crimson gown. Despite the fact that Jennifer’s train and matching scarf gave theatrical flare, the strapless dress blended in with the red carpet.
Given that Lawrence is regarded as one of Hollywood’s most successful actresses, it is not surprising that she attracted attention at the yearly Cannes festival. What caught people off guard, though, were Quentin Tarantino’s remarks about being happy the actress wasn’t chosen for one of his films.

Why didn’t Quentin Tarantino want to cast Jennifer Lawrence?
Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Tarantino recalled approaching theHunger Gamesactress for his 2015 filmThe Hateful Eight. He said,
“I’m a huge Jennifer Lawrence fan,” he explained. “And I can see her doing a good job with this role, so we went to talk about it and everything. She was just doing me a courtesy to see me, I think. She was doing Joy. She had to do all this publicity on the Hunger Games movies.” Quentin continued, “There was just no […] way in the world that she was available.”
Due to her busy schedule, the role ultimately went to Jennifer Jason Leigh who Tarantino believes to be “right choice”. He told EW,
“Having said that, I’m glad I didn’t cast somebody that young.I think I absolutely positively made the right choice, as far as the ages of the characters.”
But was this the only time the well-acclaimed filmmaker did not cast the talented J-Law in one his films?

Quentin Tarantino revealed that Jennifer Lawrence read for the part of Squeaky inOnce Upon A Time In Hollywood
According to the media, the actress performed a read for Tarantino’s 2019 Once Upon a Time In Hollywood, a movie with a star-studded ensemble that included Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, and Margot Robbie.
The information was revealed by Quentin in 2021 on a WTF Podcast episode, although he failed to specify why Jennifer was ultimately passed over for the role. He said,
“Early on, in the pre-production of Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, I flirted around with the idea of … Jennifer Lawrence playing Squeaky,” he explained. “She came down to the house to read the script, ’cause I wasn’t letting it out. So she came down to the house and I gave her the script and said, ‘Go in my living room or go outside by the pool and read it.'”
“She read it, and afterward, we talked about it a little bit. She was interested in doing it, but something didn’t work out,”
Though the talented duo haven’t worked together yet, Quentin believes Jennifer Lawrence to be “nice person” and he “respects her as an actress”
