Official preview spoilers summary
Higehiroepisode 2 will partly focus on how Yoshida, doing his usual groceries shopping, realizes Sayu doesn’t have her own mobile. She also dodges the question when asked why. We’ll also see more of Yoshida’s job and his colleagues. The story closely follows the original novel and the manga for now.
Personally speaking, like I’ve been saying last week,Higehiro: After Being Rejected, I Shaved and Took in a High School Runawaydefinitely shouldn’t be judged by its cover. You should try it out if you’d like something a bit different, but still dwelling in shonen romcom.

“Hige o Soru. Soshite Joshikousei o Hirou.” is initially a light novel written byShimesabaand illustrated byBooota. Five volumes have been released in Japan so far, with 1.5 million copies in print. It’s quite popular so it was only a matter of time before it got its anime.
A manga adaptation is also ongoing in Japan since 2018, with art by Imaru Adachi. The manga is published in Monthly Shonen Ace.
Lastly, since 2021, there’s also a short stories spinoff titled “Hige o Soru. Soshite Joshikousei o Hirou. Each Stories” focusing on the various Heroines of the story. We’ll be seeing two of them besides Sayu in episode 2, so look forward to it.
Neither the novel or the manga are released in America yet. The novel wasn’t licensed, but the manga will be published on June 23, 2025 byOne Peace Books.
Higehirodefinitely has the potential to be the best romcom this season and one of the best anime of Spring 2021. So I’m looking forward to seeing how more of its story will get adapted.
