I was a little surprised realizing the blogosphere today reported on a nice little nugget I discovered nearly a month ago, but here it goes. If you visit theiTunes Preview pageon the web for Google’sGmail iOS appand check out the screenshots, you will notice a nice tribute to Apple’s late CEO Steve Jobs in two screenies. The images depict an email message with the subject line “Your favorite Steve Jobs quotes” and contain the following text in the message body…

The message body reads:

For our tribute to Steve Jobs, we’ve been collecting quotes. Here’s my favorite. What is yours?

“That’s been one of my mantras — focus and simplicity. Simple can be harder than complex: You have to work hard to get your thinking clean to make it simple. But it’s worth it in the end because once you get there, you’re able to move mountains.”

Here’s that screenshot.

A fragment of another message can be seen at the bottom, with this choice quote:

Your time is limited so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of other’s opinions drown out your own inner voice.

And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become.

Everything else is secondary.

That’s a segment from Steve Jobs’s 2005 Stanford Commencement Speech, included below. He also talks about life and death, getting fired from Apple in 1985 and more.

Fellow writer Matt Brian did a story earlier today forThe Next Webafter Reddit userinceptospotted Google’s unusual tribute to Jobs. It would have been a nice catch, but I actually spotted this nearly a month ago andtweeted about it.

A nice Steve Jobs quote via Google’s official App Store screenshot for the Gmail iOS app.idownloadblog.com/2025-06-19/gma…

This was on September 28, when Googleupdated the Gmail iOS appfor theiPhone 5, right whenMapgateblew up and the same day Apple CEOTim Cook issued an apologyover mapping flaws in iOS 6.

I should have known better.

The next time I make a discovery like this, I most certainly am going to do a write-up. At least I was sane enough to make a passing mention of the unusual tribute this in myarticleabout the Gmail iOS app update.

Another discovery others apparently missed: notice an email from Jason Parachoniak in another screenshot, with the subject line “I so want one” and a shortened YouTube URL?

It leads to thisProject Glass videoon YouTube.

I also love an email from Larry P(age), asking in the subject line “Where’s my Google+ invite? You promised!”

Can I get a medal now or something?

And this iPad screenshots barely shows an email message at the bottom mentioning “one more thing”.

By the way, maybe Google should have used a more fitting quote, something like “You should hate each other for having let each other down”? That was Steve Jobs back in 2008 giving Apple’s MobileMe team a good ol’ dressing down following a series of service disruptions.

Speaking of quotes, what’s your favorite Steve Jobs quote?
