As 2023 draws to a close, various year-end lists have emerged, highlighting the best of the year in cinema. Notably, Variety took this instance to list some of the cinematic disappointments of 2023, which also include the Gal Gadot starrer spy action thriller,Heart of Stone. It features theWonder Womanfame actress in the role of an international intelligence operative on a mission to protect a mysterious artificial intelligence system known as The Heart.

The film, however, did not receive a favorable response from critics and audiences, mostly getting negative reviews for its plot and character development. The unfavorable reception has now landed it among some of the worst movies of the year.

Gal Gadot’sHeart of StoneLands Among Worst Movies of the Year
Following her last appearance as Wonder Woman inThe Flash,Gal Gadottook on the role of intelligence operative Rachel Stone in Netflix’sHeart of Stone. The movie, however, failed to garner favorable reviews from both critics and audiences, mostly due to its cliché and predictable plot.
While many commended Gadot’s performance in the action sequences of the film, critics also highlighted the lack of emotional development in her character. As perVariety, the film has now landed a spot among the worst movies of the year, as many critics stated that it doesn’t bring anything new to the genre. The report states,

“In the land of made-for-streaming-thriller wretched excess, where hyperbolic overkill isn’t just the by-product — it’s the whole point.”
Despite featuring renowned actresses like Gadot, who is known for starring in franchises like DCEU andFast and Furious, the film failed to bring in a positive reception for their collective effort. However, Gadot is not alone, as she joins a roaster of superhero actors who have found themselves on the list for movies outside of popular superhero franchises.

Superhero Actors Whose Movies Didn’t Fare Well in 2023
There is no doubt that 2023 has not been a fruitful year for the superhero genre, as many of the movies from acclaimed and popular franchises, like MCU and DC Universe, failed to perform that great at the box office and among critics.
However, it also seemed the case for the superhero actors, as their ventures in and outside of these franchises failed to make an impact at the box office.Chris Evans’action comedy film with Ana de Armas,Ghosted, received criticism for several factors, including its story and the lack of chemistry between its leading stars.

Many even went on to call it“empty and soulless.”Despite negative reviews, which landed it among the worst movies of the year,Ghostenhas become the most-watched movie debut to date on AppleTV+. Apart fromGhosted,Wes Anderson’smulti-starrer filmAsteroid Cityhas also made it to the list.
Starring the Marvel starScarlett Johansson, the movie ended up among the worst movies of the year. Variety describes it as a“claustrophobic dud of a movie.” WhileAsteroid Cityreceived mostly positive reviews, many criticized the film for its overloaded and unnecessary stylizations.
One of the entries on the list also includesEzra Miller’sDC filmThe Flash.The movie was released under several developments related to DC Studios and its controversial star and went on to be a commercial and critical failure. While the movie was praised for its action sequences and cast’s performance,The Flashreceived criticism for its visual effects and third act.
