Announced back in March 2022 through a cinematic trailer,Flintlock: The Siege of Dawnis an upcoming game that blends fantasy and magic elements with RPG and shooting mechanics. The game was initially planned as a day-one Game Pass launch for Xbox users worldwide, but it seems like that’s not the case anymore.

The game will eventually arrive on Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S sometime in 2024.
The Game Is Listed on Best Buy Right Now
In aReddit post, users discussed the game’s availability atBest Buy. The post describes the change in nature with regard to the game’s launch. Initially, it was planned as a Game Pass release, but now players can pre-order the game online. This can indicate further trailers or announcements during the Game Awards.
The game is currently listed for $49.99, and the product description pretty much covers the game’s key aspects and all it has to offer. However, it seems that the product description as well as gameplay features are inspired by the publisher’s official website.

Flintlock Will Creatively Mix Quite a Few Sub-Genres
The game is being developed by A44 Games, the makers ofAshen. At the moment, we don’t have a lot of gameplay footage to scour over, but it seems that the creators are quite aligned with their vision for the game. On theofficial website, the game is described in a unique fashion:
Join humanity’s last stand as gods and guns collide in an all-new action-rpg open-world adventure from the creators of Ashen

Flintlock’snarrative focuses on an ongoing crisis where the ‘Afterlife‘ now has access to the protagonist’s world, which has brought an army of undead from within. Before the living see their final days, the coalition army needs to reclaim what’s essentially theirs. Players take on the role of Nor Vanek, a superior member of the army with a fox-like companion, Enki. Together, they traverse the city of Dawn.
Despite finding a home in common themes like zombies and the undead, the world inFlintlockhas players notice a harmony between the undead and the beauty of natural environments. It’s a theme that has been explored before, but the niche that combines known elements like guns with the unknown, like magic, makes for a solid fantasy-fiction setting in a video game.

The gameplay heavily focuses on a mix of gunplay and magic, where both of these key mechanics are equally powerful and makeFlintlocksomething right out of a fantasy third-person action/adventure game. Furthermore, the gameplay boasts a ‘god-killing‘ adventure where players can mix gunplay, axe-wielding, and magic attacks in order to build powerful combos and get creative with how they tackle enemies.
Flintlock’sworld will include different terrains like mountains, forests, and overrun hamlets that are being overrun by monstrosity. The open-world gameplay mixed with traditional combat mechanics does have a touch of creativity we may not have seen before.

The design and development ofFlintlockhave been quite fascinating, with the overall themes often being inspired by the 19th-century style of the Napoleonic era. The documentation of landscapes can be credited to New Zealand’s landscape and flora. Much of the in-game characters have been created using Unreal Engine’s MetaHuman tool, and you’ll be finding similarities between Mesopotamian figures of worship when glancing over the gods in the game.
As for the combat and gameplay, the team’s planning on a rhythm-esque movement to complement the creative combat mentioned earlier.Flintlockwill feel something between the lines ofGod of WarandElden Ring. While not completely a Soulslike experience, a fair share of ‘punishing‘ gameplay is to be expected, along with a progressively creative combat system. We’re likely to hear more from the developers and publishers in the coming months.
