The quest to find the final, massiveGuardians of the Galaxy Easter eggcontinues. Well, maybe. It looks like a YouTuber may be onto something big and we may finally have an answer as to what this mystery, undiscovered Easter egg from the movie is. If this new theory is right, it is the cosmic entity known as Eternity.

YouTube channel MasterTainment, run by a man who goes by the name of MT, uploaded a video to hisChannela little while ago posing the theory that Eternity isJames Gunn’s big Easter egg. The same YouTube channel also posed a theory that Quasar was the Easter egg and the idea gained a lot of traction, butJames Gunnhimself shot it down. This time MT seems to have some pretty solid evidence for the Eternity theory. It has to do with the scene at the end of the movie when the Guardians are holding hands in order to contain the power of the Infinity Stone. Here is how MT explains it in the video.

“TheEaster eggthat we all missed is here when Peter seems to be having a hallucination about his mom on a bed in space…that background with the planets and the super bright nebulas and stuff is Eternity, one of the four major cosmic entities in the MCU.”

He then referenced something found on the planet Morag, where Peter Quill found the orb containing the Infinity Stone in the beginning of the movie, which showed four cosmic entities, one of which being Eternity. In the scene referenced at the end of the movie when Peter is “hallucinating” about his mom, the background appears to resemble the insides of Eternity, as depicted in the image from the planet Morag. Further, the video postulates that the nine cosmic beings who controlled the Infinity Stone inGuardians of the Galaxy(as explained by The Collector), may be the nine children of Eternity, which is something that would have been harvested from the Marvel Comics lore.

In the comics, Eternity is the leader of a group known as the Cosmic Powers of the Marvel universe. The character was first encountered byDoctor Strange, who recently made his debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Eternity is a tremendously powerful, cosmic entity that has no physical body, but exists everywhere. This definitely ventures into the more bizarre side of Marvel, butDoctor Strangerecently busted that door wide open and this would align with the wayJames Gunndescribed the Easter egg. Which is, in a word, big. Here is how Marvel.com describes the character of Eternity, just to give a slightly better idea of what we could be dealing with here.

“Eternity is the embodiment of time, and possesses within itself near-omnipotentcosmic powers, drawing upon the energy of all that exists along the temporal axis. As an abstract entity, Eternity utilizes the Dimension of Manifestations to create an M-Body (Manifestation Body) when interacting with physical beings. When merged with Infinity, Eternity possesses the combined power of the entire space/time continuum.”

Eternity would seem to qualify as big. A ton ofGuardians of the GalaxyEaster eggs have already been found, but the big one is still out there somewhere. Maybe it is Eternity? we won’t know untilJames Gunnweighs in. Some of the bigger ones include Cosmo, the Russian cosmonaut space dog who was a member of the Guardians team in the comics,The Collector’s trophy room, which held Adam Warlock’s cocoon and a whole slew of other Easter eggs, and tons of pop culture references.James Gunnhas made it clear he has no plans on revealing the Easter egg and went so far as to commit to paying a fan $100 thousand dollars if it turned out this mystery Easter egg doesn’t exist. So hopefully this can be put to bed and this theory is right. If not, maybe he will eventually cave during the press tour forGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2next year. you’re able to check out the full video for yourself below.
