The Hinterlands inElden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtreeis one that holds few rewards, but what is offered is great for faith and INT builds, with its main functionality focused on a side quest. Ymir’s questline calls for players to traverse these lands, but requires you to think outside the box to get there.
O Mother, Where Art Thou?
First thing players need to get is a new gesture:O Mother. This gesture is located immediately north ofBonny Village, a location that players need to go through theMoorth Ruinsto the west in order to access.
To the Shadow Keep
Next, players will need to gain access to theShadow Keep’s Back Gate. In order to get back there, players will need to traverse theSpecimen Storehouseof theShadow Keep. The easiest way to get here specifically is to come through the east Church District entrance as there will be various ladders that help you proceed up to theStoreroom,Loftgrace. You will need to jump through a hole in the wall in order to get up here.

To fail to prepare is to prepare to fail
Once here, take the elevator upwards to the scaffolding where you will be treated to bats and a nasty fire knight, all looking to push you off to your death. Once you reach the fire knight, you’ll know you’re in the right area. Ignore him and the elevator completely and continue to the next ladder and proceed downward. Below will be a room overlooking everything below. Simply drop onto it or use the ladder and proceed out the massive opening outside.
To the Back Gate
Simply take another elevator downward and follow the linear path to yet another, even longer elevator which will bring you to the Back Gate, in which there’s a room to the right and an entrance outside. Outside will be a mounted boss fight with a lot of open area to traverse; there’s the room to the right with aScadutree Fragmentin front of a statue.
This statute plays a significant part of the means of getting to the Hinterlands. If you facedGaiusoutside the other door, you’ll know there’s no way around. Instead, you will need to use theO Mothergesture in front of the statue and thus opening the way to the beautiful Hinterlands.
