Cyberpunk 2077’s Development Has Officially Ended
For the first time in the last 10 years, and three and a half years after the launch ofCyberpunk 2077,CD Projekthas stopped working on it. According to the latest financial report presented by the company, in February of this year there was still a team of 17 people forCyberpunk 2077, but by the end of April, no one remained.
During that time, the studio has slightly grown, from 627 employees to 730, and the team that has grown the most is the one working onProject Orion, which will be the second installment ofCyberpunk 2077. By far, the bulk ofCD Projekt’sworkforce, 407 people, are now dedicated toProject Polaris.

Cyberpunk 2077had a long and chaotic initial creation process. Announced in 2012, the first trailer was shown in 2013, but real development didn’t begin until 2016 whenAdam Badowskitook the reins of the project, which finally saw the light of day in December 2020 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One versions.
Although the PC version received good reviews, the poor performance and bugs of the console versions were the center of great controversy, leading to the game’s removal from thePlayStation Store. In 2022, the PS5 and Xbox Series versions were released.

Through multiple patches, especially 2.0 and the release of thePhantom Libertyexpansion,Cyberpunk 2077managed to redeem itself, and shortly before the studio closed that chapter, it had received ‘very positive’ reviews onSteamand had generated nearly 700 millions.
Now, the studio is mainly focused on development of the highly anticipatedWitcher 4.
