Mass Effect 4 Is Being Developed by Franchise Veterans
However, since the game’s initial announcement in 2020, information aboutMass Effect 4has been scarce, leading to speculation and even rumors of internal struggles within the studio.
After the game’s director reassured fans that development was progressing smoothly, BioWare has now stepped in to further clarify the situation—doing so in a definitive manner.

In a detailed statement, BioWare has made it clear that Mass Effect 4 is a top priority and represents a new chapter for the studio.
“Today, we prepare for a new chapter in BioWare’s history. As we announced in 2023, we are changing the way we develop games to meet our evolving needs while staying true to our highest quality standards.”

This statement references the major layoffs and restructuring that took place at BioWare in August 2023.
Regarding Mass Effect 4, the studio has assigned a core development team composed of franchise veterans.

Leading the project is Mike Gamble, who has been an executive producer on the franchise since Mass Effect 2, and he is joined by several well-known names:
At this stage, the project remains in the hands of this select group, with no immediate need for full support from the broader BioWare team, many of whom are assigned to other Electronic Arts projects.
BioWare general manager Gary McKay hinted that Mass Effect 4 is still a long way from release. It could take as many years to develop as The Veilguard, which launched a full decade after its predecessor.
