Back in February, the Motion Picture Association of America issued an R rating for an Ultimate Edition ofBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which will debut on Blu-ray and DVD later this year. While we don’t know exactly what will be included on thisUltimate Edition, directorZack Snyderrecently teased that the R-rated cut will be a half-hour longer than the theatrical cut ofBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Today that runtime was confirmed by a Swedish home video listing, which reveals the runtime is 181 minutes, exactly 30 minutes longer than the theatrical runtime of 151 minutes, along with 120 minutes of bonus features.

The director teased last month that he is putting back scenes that he was forced to cut so the film would get a PG-13 rating. He also revealed that there is no nudity, just more violence that “tipped the scales” from an R rating to PG-13. The filmmaker stated that scenes featuring Green Bay Packers running backAhman Greenand iconic bodybuilder guruC.T. Fletcherwill be included in the director’s cut, along withJena Malone’s scenes, who has long been rumored to be playing Barbara Gordon, a.k.a. Batgirl. ThoughCdon.COmwas able to provide the runtime and length of special featuress, no further details were given about what will be included in the two hours of bonus material.

Earlier this month, another rumor surfaced that Warner Bros. may be considering releasing theR-ratedcut theatrically, at some point later this year. It was believed that the studio may be trying to squeeze even more money out of theDawn of Justicetheatrical release, which has currently earned $320.4 million domestically and $530 million internationally for a worldwide tally of $854.4 million. That worldwide gross is the second highest tally this year, behind the $909.6 million worldwide take ofZootopia.

Zack Snyderalso teased that theextended cutwill feature more footage from the Batman warehouse rescue, along with more shots of Doomsday that were “too intense.” There will also be extended opening and ending sequences of the movie, and the North Africa sequence is said to be, “really much different.” Unfortunately, we don’t know when this Ultimate Edtion will be released on Blu-ray and DVD, or when Warner Bros. may release it in theaters.

It isn’t known if this half hour ofextra footagewill also feature more scenes with the newJustice Leaguemembers who were introduced,The Flash(Ezra Miller),Aquaman(Jason Momoa) andCyborg(Ray Fisher). All three of these actors will unite withBatman(Ben Affleck),Superman(Henry Cavill) andWonder Woman(Gal Gadot) inJustice League Part 1, which recently started filming in the U.K., with a August 07, 2025 release date already in place. We’ll be sure to keep you posted with more details about the R-rated cut ofBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justiceas soon as we have more information.
