Back in July,Apple’s CEO Tim Cook confirmedthe new iPhone lineup would see a slight delay. Today, the company confirmed a special event for September 15. But we may be waiting a bit longer to see new Apple-branded smartphones.
On Tuesday,Apple announceda special event for August 23, 2025. That’s in one week. That’s possible because it’s a virtual event, similar to the one that Apple hosted earlier this year for the annualWorldwide Developers Conference. So we’ll all be tuning in online to see what Apple has in store for us. But that may not be new iPhones.
That’s according to Mark Gurman ofBloomberg, who tweeted out this upcoming event will be focused on the iPad and Apple Watch. Gurman says he’s been informed that Apple does not plan on announcing the new iPhone lineup until sometime in October:
I am told Apple won’t announce the iPhone until October. This is for the iPad and Apple Watch in all likelihood.https://t.co/pw1oVXVoaL

No specific date was given, which isn’t surprising. But, for anyone who was looking forward to seeing a new iPhone debut at this year’s September event, that may not come to fruition.
Instead, the September event will reportedly focus on a new iPad model, or models, and theApple Watch Series 6. The new smartwatch will reportedly feel blood oxygen monitoring as its primary new feature. The design is said to be similar to the Series 5.
Meanwhile, as for new iPad models, there have been plenty of rumors. Back in August, for instance,a leaked manualsuggested thew “iPad Air 4” would featureTouch IDbuilt into the power button. That new iPad model may feature a display that measures between 10.8 inches and up to 11 inches, with minimal bezels.
But wait, there might be more?
The reality is we don’t know quite yet what Apple is going to announce on September 15. We do know that the iPhone 12 is delayed by a couple of weeks, at least. That means the devices won’t launch until sometime in October. That makes it still possible that Apple could announce the handsets next week. However, it’s just as possible that won’t happen.
So that may leave room for other products. AirTags, for instance. The Tile competitor is a small tracking device that has been rumored for months now. Apple could unveil this accessory on September 15. Though, the last rumor suggestedthe AirTags would debut alongside the iPhone 12 in October.
And then there are the oft-rumored AirPods Studio, the over-ear headphones. We’ve beenhearing aboutthese headphones for what feels like forever now. Applecouldunveil them on September 15.
Either way, we don’t have long to wait.
