Marvel’s finalPhase TwoadventureAnt-Manis currently available on Digital HD starting today, before arriving on3D Blu-rayCombo Pack,Blu-ray,DVD, Digital SD and VOD on December 8. Before you pick up your Digital HD copy,Entertainment Weeklyhas released a new deleted scene with commentary from directorPeyton Reedand star/co-writerPaul Rudd, which has a uniqueEaster Eggthat ties into theIron Manfranchise. Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) himself isn’t featured in this scene, but there is a reference to one of his villains.
The scene featuresCorey Stoll’s Darren Cross, a.k.a.Yellowjacket, putting on a presentation for numerous buyers that shows some of the practical applications of the shrinking technology he has developed. The presentation shows massive shipping containers shrunk down to one small cube, and an enormous landfill that has been shrunk to fit in the palm of your hand. If it weren’t forPeyton Reed’s commentary, some fans may have missed this Easter Egg entirely, as he points out that one of the buyers may or may not have a Ten Rings tattoo on his neck, which references The Mandarin.Paul Ruddjokes that it isn’t, in fact, a Ten Rings tattoo, and it merely signifies the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, which is coincidentally where they shot this superhero adventure. Here’s what directorPeyton ReedtoldEntertainment Weeklyabout other special features found on theAnt-Man 3D Blu-rayCombo Pack,Blu-ray,DVD.
“Well,Paul Ruddand I did an audio commentary for the whole movie - that was a blast. The making-of stuff is really terrific because building all these miniaturized sets, and doing all the macro photography, was really crucial to the whole look and tone of the movie. We have a handful of extended scenes and there’s some slight [bonus scenes] stuff. Some of the stuff you’ll see in there was from a section we cut out of the movie which was, after Scott gets theAnt-Mansuit, then he decides to do some less-than-than-heroic things with the suit. He’s helpingMichael Peñaand the guys do some gambling and all this stuff. Then there’s amazing blooper stuff with a lot of dancing on it. There was a lot of dancing on the set. You seePaul Rudddo some dance moves, in and out of the Ant-Man suit. You seeMichael Peñadoing some dance moves. There’s a healthy amount of dancing on theBlu-ray.”
InIron Man 3,Ben Kingsleyportrayed a character who we all thought was The Mandarin, leader of the Ten Rings organization that kidnapped Tony Stark in the firstIron Manmovie. Fans learned at the end ofIron Man 3thatBen Kingsley’s character was really just a failed British actor named Trevor Slattery, who was hired byGuy Pearce’s Aldrich Ames to pretend to be the Mandarin. We learned in last year’sMarvel One-Shot: All Hail the King, that the Ten Rings and The Mandarin are both very real, but it isn’t clear if there are any plans to implement this organization into futureMarvelCinematic Universe adventure.
We reported last month thatPeyton Reedis in negotiations withMarvelto direct the sequelAnt-Man and the Wasp, which will bring backPaul RuddandEvangeline Lillyas the title characters. The studio hasn’t announced who is writing the script yet, and it isn’t clear ifPaul RuddandAdam McKaywill return to co-write the script or not. While we wait for more details on this superhero sequel, check out this deleted scene fromAnt-Man, which you may purchase on Digital HD starting today, before it arrives on3D Blu-rayCombo Pack,Blu-ray,DVD, Digital SD and VOD on December 8.
