Additional photos also show other members of the station, such as Hen, Ravi, and Maddie getting ready for the funeral, each dealing with their own personal issues on top of their collectively shared grief.

Thanks to the below trailer, we can start to prepare for what those dynamics are. Following on from the lab disaster, we see Chimey blame Bobby for his own death instead of himself, telling Buck, “He gave his life so I could live… I’m just not sure what I’m supposed to do with that.”

Understandably, Athena is also struggling to cope in the wake of Bobby’s death. While she’s seen stoically walking down the street as part of the funeral procession, she later tells her loved ones, “He’s not supposed to be dead… he’s just left me.”

If you’re still annoyed that Bobby had to die in the Contagion arc, it was for a reason. As showrunner Tim Minnearconfirmedto The Hollywood Reporter, “Once I started thinking that somebody had to die, then the choice was, who? And the only choice that I thought made sense was Bobby. It makes sense for his character to have a tragic sacrifice as a conclusion of his entire journey in the show.

“And also, if there’s a character whose death is going to affect the most characters, who would that be? So, go big or go home.”
