From a man who can paint the future while high to a cheerleader who can regenerate from any wound, there are a lot of variety in superpowers.Heroesdeals with the drama of having these abilities, specifically how often it can be a burden or a curse for the people with these strange abilities. Boasting a 94% Audience Score onRotten Tomatoes, season one is a cohesive and very well written season of television, telling a complete story with lots of mysteries and twists. If you liked the more psychological aspect ofMoon Knight, thenHeroeswill also satisfy you.Heroesis also a fascinating look into what superhero television may have been like without the advent of Marvel becoming a massive cultural force, as it was made way beforeDaredevilorWandaVisionwere in production.
3Doom Patrol
Another example of dark superhero shows that deal with character angst and psychology,Doom Patrolfollows the story of a series of super powered individuals who were each, in some way, damaged. Cliff Steele, for example, was a NASCAR driver who was severely injured in a car crash and whose brain was transferred into a robot body. The show itself is a perfect ‘red string on a corkboard’ sort of show, with a lot of strange mysteries interwoven with each other than the protagonists have to untangle. The show is, perhaps obviously by now, very weird. One of the cases involves a woman who was experimented on such that she would microwave everyone around her. It’s an off the wall horror show, so it’s not for everyone, but it’s worth a try if that sort of thing interests you.

Technically the show that got the new wave of Marvel shows started,WandaVisionis perfect for a first watch or revisit after watchingMoon Knight. The show deals similarly with the headspace and mentality of its main protagonists, Wanda Maximoff and Vision, as they try to make a life for themselves in a small town.WandavVsionalso has the strange experimental side thatMoon Knightshows, with Marvel trying to do something different with the sitcom references and style.WandaVision’s delving into its protagonists psyche also leaves plenty of room for drama with the main characters in conflict with one another as more and more of what is happening in their town is revealed. The show also characterizes, really well, two characters who had, up till that point, not really gotten too much characterization in the wider MCU.
